Claiming financial compensation causes safety risks?

Dutch Prof. C.C. van Dam wrote an article on his blog about the dicussion whether claiming financial compensation will lead to safety risks during a flight.

Mr. van Dam gives an example of a situation that airlines use in this discussion. In addition, he argues against airlines (or experts) who state that claiming financial compensation will lead to dangerous situations during a flight.
