Claiming compensation for a delayed Ryanair flight

If your Ryanair flight was delayed you could end up waiting a long time at the airport and lose significant time or miss important affairs. This is why Regulation 261/2004 was introduced and has been in effect since 2005. It establishes your rights as an airline passenger. In order to claim compensation for a delayed flight, the following criteria must apply:

Ryanair is a European airline, this means that if your flight arrives with a delay exceeding three hours and no extraordinary circumstances apply, you are entitled to compensation which can add up to €600 (£532*) per person.

Example: Your Ryanair flight from Dublin to London is delayed by four hours due to crew sickness. You are entitled to a compensation of €250 (£222*) per person.

Amount of compensation

When you are entitled to compensation because your Ryanair flight was delayed, the amount of compensation is based on the flight distance:

If your flight exceeds 3,500 km and your arrival delay is between three and four hours, you are entitled to 50% of the compensation amount.

Recently delayed Ryanair flights

July Ryanair delays and strike

Irish Ryanair pilots have announced a strike for July 12 and Ryanair cabin crew from various nationalities have announced strikes for July 25 and 26, in the midst of the summer holiday. Passengers experiencing flight cancellations due to the strike are entitled to compensation under Regulation 261/2004.

July 9, Ryanair passengers travelling between Manchester and Malaga suffered a delay of 4,5 hours under Flightnumbers FR9120 and FR9121. Passengers are entitled to €400 in compensation. The Manchester to Dublin flight of Ryanair was also severly delayed the same day, passengers of FR1557 are entitled to €250 in compensation. 

Ryanair passengers suffered delays in June

On June 15, passengers from Barcelona to London Stansted suffered an almost 7 hour flight delay with flight FR9811. They are entitled to €250 in compensation. Other long Ryanair delays on June 15 open for claims are FR5946 from Bournemouth to Murcia and FR5947 from Murcia to Bournemouth, FR8406 from Wroclaw to London Stansted and FR8728 from Milan Malpensa to London Stansted. Ryanair passengers flying from Cork to London Stansted on FR909 suffered a long flight delay as well, arriving almost 4 hours late. Also passengers from Manchester to Dublin with Ryanair flight FR557 arrived with a delay of 3 hours and 20 minutes. 

Ryanair passengers in June suffered plenty of lenghty flightdelays. The first weekend of June was highlighted by the amount of delays. Passengers of the following flights are entitled to compensation for the loss of time.

According to Regulation 261/2004, passengers suffering arrival delays of three hours or more can apply for compensation due to the loss of time. No extraordinary circumstances applied to the following flights on June 7. Passengers are entitled to compensation.
