Claiming compensation for a delayed Ryanair flight

If your Ryanair flight was delayed you could end up waiting a long time at the airport and lose significant time or miss important affairs. This is why Regulation 261/2004 was introduced and has been in effect since 2005. It establishes your rights as an airline passenger. In order to claim compensation for a delayed flight, the following criteria must apply:

Ryanair is a European airline, this means that if your flight arrives with a delay exceeding three hours and no extraordinary circumstances apply, you are entitled to compensation which can add up to €600 (£538*) per person.

Example: Your Ryanair flight from Dublin to London is delayed by four hours due to crew sickness. You are entitled to a compensation of €250 (£224*) per person.

If your flight exceeds 3,500 km and your arrival delay is between three and four hours, you are entitled to 50% of the compensation amount.

Recently delayed Ryanair flights

Since the start of 2018, various Ryanair flights suffered delays from and to the UK. 

August Ryanair strikes and flight problems

On August 27, Ryanair flights between Eindhoven and London Stansted were delayed. Ryanair flight FR9272 was actually delayed for more than 7 hours! Passengers of the delayed flights FR9272 and FR9271 are entitled to €250 in compensation.

Ryanair pilots across Europe have issued more strike dates for August. On August 10, the Swedish and Belgian Ryanair pilots have issued a strike. German pilots are also in favour of strike action but have not yet announced any definite dates yet. 

In the start of August, some Ryanair flights suffered very long delays. August 2, Ryanair flight FR1393 from Oslo to London Stansted was delayed for 9,5 hours(!). Passengers are entitled to compensation for this long flight delay. During the first weekend of August, some Ryanair flights were delayed for more than seven hours(!). On August 4 it was flight FR5993 from Madrid to London Stansted that was delayed for more than 7,5 hours. FR1833 from Naples to London Stansted on Sunday, August 5, was delayed for more than seven hours. Passengers of both delays are entitled to €400 in compensation. 

On August 6, Ryanair flights from Rome Ciampino and Porto to London Stansted were severly delayed. Passengers of the delays of flights FR3005 and FR8344 are entitled to €400 in compensation.
