    A large system failure at European Air Control Center Eurocontrol caused high delays for thousands of European scheduled flights yesterday afternoon. The failed flight management system urged the air traffic control to scale back flights ten percent as a part of an emergency backup plan.

    French ATC strike results in 800 flight cancellations

    Due to a French ATC strike 800 flights from- and to France have been cancelled up to Friday morning. Over 100.000 passengers are affected by the strike. Irish budget airline Ryanair has cancelled many flights out of precaution.

    British Airways to launch free Wi-Fi onboard in June

    Passengers flying with British Airways across Europe will soon be able to use Wi-Fi services onboard. The airline’s mother company IAG is launching high-speed Wi-Fi in June on selected aircrafts. Ninety percent of its short-haul fleet should have high-speed Wi-Fi by 2019.

    Synonyms like ‘the big freeze’ and ‘Beast from the east’ were used to describe the weather in the South of the UK the past weekend. Heavy snow and freezing temperatures were the result of both eastern Russian air coming in over the country meeting Storm Emma coming in from the Atlantic. The collision of the two, caused snowfall up to 50 cm in the South-west of the UK and Ireland.

    The Unions of both inflight- and ground staff of Air France have announced a strike for Thursday February 22. Unions demand a large pay increase for the entire staff of the French airline.

    London city airport was closed yesterday when a World War II bomb was discovered nearby the runway in the Thames River. All 284 flights from and to the London airport were cancelled or suffered long delays.

    Lufthansa kicked Ryanair of the throne as the Lufthansa Group carried 1,2 million more passengers than Ryanair in 2017. In 2016 the Irish budget airline still topped the list but after suffering pilot shortage last summer, resulting in a lot of flight cancellations, the airline failed to keep up its number one position in the top 20 of European Airlines.
