Claiming compensation for a delayed British Airways flight

If your British Airways (BA) flight was delayed you could end up waiting a long time at the airport and lose significant time or miss important affairs. This is why Regulation 261/2004 was introduced and has been in effect since 2005. It establishes your rights as an airline passenger. In order to claim compensation for a delayed flight, the following criteria must apply:

British Airways is a European airline company, this means that if your flight arrives with a delay exceeding three hours and no extraordinary circumstances apply, you are entitled to compensation which can add up to €600 (£528*) per person.

Example: Your flight with British Airways from New York to London Heathrow is delayed because of a technical fault. You arrive in London with a delay of almost five hours. You are not entitled to a compensation of €600 (£528*) per person.

March 20th, British Airways flights BA2281 from London City to Geneva, BA2280 from Geneva to London City and BA102 from Calgary to London Heathrow suffered delays exceeding three hours. Passengers are entitled to compensation. March 28, another four British Airways flights from and to the UK were delayed for more than three hours. Passengers of flights BA604 from London Heathrow to Pisa, BA191 from London Heathrow to Austin, BA1394 from London Heathrow to Manchester and BA49 from London Heathrow to Seattle are entitled to compensation varying between €250 and €600 per person. 

During the easter weekend, British Airways passengers suffered some lenghty delays. Passengers of the following flights are entitled to compensation due to loss of time.

On April 8, four more BA flights suffered longtime delays. Passengers of British Airways flights: BA541 from Bologna to London Heathrow, BA713 from Zurich to London Heathrow, BA1497 from Glasgow to London Heathrow and BA1492 from London Heathrow to Glasgow are entitled to compensation. April 9, BA flights BA4453 from London City to Rotterdam, BA8484 from Palma de Mallorca to London City and BA736 from London Heathrow to Geneva were delayed for more than three hours. Passengers of these flights are entitled to compensation under EU Regulation 261/2004.

Some passengers were unfortunate enough to travel on one of the BA delays of April 15. However, passengers of flights BA253 from London Heathrow to the Bahamas, BA269 from London Heathrow to Los Angeles and BA249 from London Heathrow to Rio de Janeiro, are entitled to €600 in compensation.
