This is why Regulation 261/2004 was introduced and has been in effect since 2005. It establishes your rights as an airline passenger. In order to claim compensation for a delayed flight, the following criteria must apply:

British Airways is a European airline company, this means that if your flight arrives with a delay exceeding three hours and no extraordinary circumstances apply, you are entitled to compensation which can add up to €600 (£535*) per person.

Example: Your flight with British Airways from New York to London Heathrow is delayed because of a technical fault. You arrive in London with a delay of almost five hours. You are not entitled to a compensation of €600 (£535*) per person.

November delays for British Airways

November 10, BA flight BA34 from Kuala Lumpur to London Heathrow was delayed for 5,5 hours. Passengers are entitled to compensation. Also on November 11, BA275 from London Heathrow to Las Vegas Airport was delayed by 6,5 hours. Also flight BA3271 from London City to Dusseldorf was delayed for more than 3,5 hours.  Passengers of these flights are entitled to compensation. 

November 13 another seven BA flights were delayed for more than three hours from or to the UK. The flights are displayed in the table below.

On the 14th of November, BA flight BA225 from London Heathrow to New Orleans was delayed by more than four hours. Passengers qualify for compensation.

In the last weekend of November more BA flights suffered long delays. On November 24, flight BA155 from London Heathrow to Cairo, Egypt. November 25 it was BA flight BA279 from London to San Jose Airport that was delayed for more than three hours. November 26, flight BA65 was delayed for more than three hours as well. November 27, BA2273 between London Gatwick and JFK New York can be added to the list of long flight delays for which its passengers are entitled to compensation. 

December BA delays

December 7, British Airways flights BA902, BA213 and BA212 were delayed for more than three hours. BA213 and BA212 are flights between London Heathrow and Boston. Passengers of the previously mentioned flights are entitled to compensation. December 13, .. flights were delayed for a long time. Passengers of flights BA136 between Mumbai and London, BA125 between London and Bahrein and BA54 between Johannesburg and London are entitled to compensation for the delay.
