Financial troubles for yet another airline have passengers concerned. Slovenian airline Adria Airways has not operated flights since Tuesday as a looming bankruptcy keeps flights on the ground. If a solution does not present itself soon, Adria Airways will be the second airline to file for bankruptcy in one week. 

One of the biggest holiday carriers, Thomas Cook, filed for bankruptcy last night, leaving more than six hundred thousand (!) passengers across the world stranded at their holiday destinations. 150.000 British passengers are awaiting the biggest repatriation ever in peacetime. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is taking responsibility for retrieving British passengers to the United Kingdom.

London Gatwick Airport has drawn up a report explaining its expansion plans for the future. The airport states that it can realize 90.000 extra flights per year when the new northern runway is finished. The plans still have to be approved by the British Ministry of Transportation.

The pilot strike of British Airways started today, Monday September 9, after midnight and shall last 48 hours. At least 850 flights will be cancelled every day due to the strike.

The summer of 2019 showed some significant improvements regarding long flight delays for British passengers. As longtime announced strikes were cancelled, 28 percent less passengers compared to last years’ summer, suffered a flight delay of three hours or more as shown by recent data of EUclaim.

Pilots of British Airways are going on strike for five days in September. Thousands of passengers are going to be affected by the strike.

The Irish High Court issued an injunction for the planned Ryanair pilot strike of August 22 and 23. Ryanair ‘welcomes the decision’ and is ‘relieved’ by the outcome for its passengers.

All flights from and to Hong Kong Airport were seized for the past two days. The airport was filled with demonstrators leading to the decision of airport closure by the authorities as a matter of safety. Thousands of passengers were affected by the situation in Hong Kong.

After the announcement of a Ryanair strike in Portugal last week, Spanish cabin crew and Irish and British pilots have released a statement calling for separate actions as well. The strikes are likely to take place in both September and the end of August.
